Despite the increase in the number of COVID19 cases here in PNG, the academic year 2021 for all primary and secondary schools resumed today with Term 2 this Monday the 19th of April 2021.

A Grade 10 student attending the Gerehu Secondary School said that he cannot wait to resume this week because this is a critical year for him with National Examinations this year.
He added that wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing once school starts is very important because in that way, it will contain the spread of the virus more easily.
“When I resume classes, I don’t know where my classmates have been, if they visited hot spots during holidays or not.”
Another student in Grade 8 who attends St Peters Chanel Primary School at Erima said that she is not ready to go to school because mentally she is not focused.
“I am afraid that if I go to school, I might get COVID-19.”
This newsroom took to the streets to ask students’ views on this resumption and here’s what many others had to say…
