Snax Tigers’ head coach Noel Zeming is crediting discipline and focus for the team’s historic 36-16 victory over the PRK Mendi Muruks in the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup 2025 Grand Final.
The win, which took place on Sunday, September 14, 2025, marked the culmination of weeks of intensive preparation.
Zeming told PNG HAUSBUNG that for the past two weeks, they have been training hard and preparing well.
“We just had to minimize our errors and stay disciplined in defense. We knew the opportunities would come if we stayed patient.”
Zeming acknowledged the challenges of coaching a young team but praised his players for their unwavering determination.
“Though it has not been easy working with a young group, the players kept their focus.”
The coach also singled out several key players, including the team’s fullback.
“Getting Dagi back into the squad was a big boost, he’s our first-choice fullback, and he showed why.”
For Zeming, the championship win was about more than just rugby; it was a perfectly timed tribute to Papua New Guinea’s 50th Independence Anniversary.
“The boys have been tremendous, especially in the last couple of games. Their effort showed that dedication always pays off.”
“It feels so good to win the Cup, especially in the country’s 50th year of celebrating our independence. It makes it even more special.”
In addition, Zeming thanked the people who supported the team throughout the season with a special thank you to the players and their families for their support throughout the year.
“They have stood by us in difficult times. To our sponsors and supporters, you have been incredible.”
He emphasized that the victory was a result of hard work, not luck. The players put their hearts into the field, and this result shows that dedication in which he expressed that they truly deserved this win.
Looking ahead, Zeming stressed the importance of keeping the team together.
“We definitely want to keep as many of this squad as possible for next season. This group has worked so hard, and we’ll try our best to retain the core of the team.”
Zeming concluded by sharing his personal emotions about the win, admitting that he was holding back tears.
