The Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) and the PNG National Rugby League Competition (PNG NRLC) have announced that Round 18 of the Digicel ExxonMobil Cup will be named “Round for Ray” to support WNBPG Kimbe Cutter player Ray Amos.
Amos sustained a serious neck injury in Round 5 of the competition while scoring a try just four minutes into the first half.
He is currently at Port Moresby General Hospital receiving rehabilitation.
PNGRFL Chief Executive Officer Stanley Hondina and Performance and Pathway General Manager Tony Archer have visited Amos and his family to inform them of the decision.
According to Hondina, PNGRFL and PNG NRLC have been providing support since the injury occurred, and Amos’s condition has improved.
“We would like to acknowledge the hard-working doctors and nurses at Port Moresby General Hospital for their expertise,” Hondina said.
The “Round for Ray” initiative will be held at all Digicel ExxonMobil venues in Minj, Rabaul, Lae, Goroka, and Port Moresby city.
Fans will have the opportunity to make donations at these locations. A bank account has also been established to assist Amos with medical bills and related expenses.
Donation details will be released on Friday, August 15th, 2025.
