The prime suspect involved in the murder of a man from Hela Province at Gorobe settlement recently, was shot and arrested by members of Delta 100 (Dog unit) and Fox unit 102 in the Central Province at 12pm today.
The suspect Polo Peto a male adult who allegedly stabbed a security guard to death which triggered a bloody retaliation and a wave of skirmishes in some parts of the city between the Helas and Goilalas, was also wanted for a string of other murders, according to Commander of Badili Police Station Inspector Obert Jerry.
The PSC said the two police units involved in this covert operation left Port Moresby last night and traveled to the junction of Goilala and Kairuku Hiri, before pouncing on Peto at around 12pm today.
Peto of mixed Goilala and Kairuku parentage is said to have retaliated by swinging a bush knife at police, which missed the driver of Delta 100 and cut the car door.
The policemen acted swiftly immediately by shooting and capturing Peto.
The Police Operations centre at Boroko Police Station also dispatched an ambulance to carry the wounded suspect from Central Province to the Port Moresby General hospital in NCD at around 2.20pm.
NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Gideon Ikumu praised his men for relentlessly pursuing and arresting this suspect.
The Metsup said one of Peto’s accomplices involved in the Gorobe killing was arrested soon after this crime and is now in lawful custody.
Work is still in progress to locate and apprehend the two men involved in the gruesome murder at Koki, which was captured on CCTV two weeks ago. Police are confident that arrests will be made soon.
