PNGRFL PRESENTS KITS TO SANCTIONED LEAGUES IN PORT MORESBY CITY

The Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) has presented Incentive Kits to fully sanctioned and compliant leagues in Port Moresby city, strengthening its national commitment to structured governance and grassroots development.

Led by Community Pathways Manager Saku Ank, the presentation marks dedication in rugby administration, one fueled by accountability, operational standards, and direct support to leagues meeting compliance benchmarks.

Mr. Ank highlighted the transformative nature of the initiative to deliver leagues to a legitimate standard.

“Compliance is not a barrier; it is the doorway through which every league steps into legitimacy.”

Mr. Ank’s words echo PNGRFL’s long-term ambition to ensure every participating league meets standards that protect players, officials, and the integrity of competitions.

According to Mr. Ank, fifty-six (56) leagues met the requirements after a nationwide compliance assessment of 100 associations this year. Kits distributed in Port Moresby include essential tools, goalpost pads, balls, pumps, timing equipment, tents, and administrative gear, designed to enhance both safety and competition quality.

Mr. Ank emphasized the initiative as a need and not because for convenience.

“For too long, our local leagues have survived on improvisation. Today we repay their resilience with real support.”

The initiative also reflects a broader vision of national sporting excellence. With rural leagues often relying on makeshift materials and unpredictable resources, the Incentive Kits aim to bridge long-standing inequalities.

“When a village league receives its first proper post pads, it’s not just equipment, it’s recognition.”

The program forms part of PNGRFL’s five-year strategic plan and will now operate annually, ensuring compliant leagues across all regions receive consistent support as they build toward a stronger rugby future.
