PNG Water supply tank reserve near Borogaino Road, North Hohola is currently undergoing refurbishment due to the accumulated rust from the past years and roof sheets dispatched from the roof.
The PNG water supply tank has endured more than a decade and sustained its capacity to store and distribute water throughout the city residence through the tough weather over the years.
The lengthy years without maintenance or conservative measures to maintain the tanks durability and safe water supply has accumulated erosion from metal constructs within the tank.
The adequate portion of chlorine applied to nourish and purify the water over time had eroded the primary roof steel beams, purlins, causing roof sheets to fall into the tank from harsh weather conditions.
The Nele Construction has been engaged to handle the maintenance work by PNG Water.
The Nele Contractor’s Supervisor Mr. Peter Sengi from his observation shared the high rust buildup was considered an alarming concern for consumption with scattered roof sheets scattered within the water tank.
Due to the accumulated rust residue within the tank of 30,000 – 50,000 litres water, it is harmful for use, so the water has been offset for almost a week to completely drain out the tank for refurbishment.
“The Tank needs maintenance fast but also need to be handled accordingly to improve its capacity to store water for a longer period of time without any maintenance work any time soon.”
“The roof is hanging by a thread with rust consuming the roofing joints from internal to external.”
“We are currently repairing the weak roof joints to provide safety while my team cleans the tank interior from underneath.”
According to Mr. Sengei, the maintenance duration will take two months to eradicate rusts and restore the entire roof to assure an efficient maintenance job adequately and effectively.
Mr. Sengei conclude by ensuring that his team are capable of completing and fulfilling the job main agendas and only regrets that the task duration of 2 months seem long but is appropriate to effectively complete the Task at hand.
