Papua New Guinea has recorded one new COVID-19 death in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Monday April 19, increasing the total number of deaths to 91.
A 48-year-old male from Western Highlands Province died from COVID-19, increasing the number of deaths in Western Highlands to three and the national death toll to 91.
Ten other provinces reported COVID-19 deaths and they are: Morobe and West Sepik – three each; Eastern Highlands – six; Jiwaka – five; National Capital District – 60; West New Britain – four; East Sepik, New Ireland and Western – two each; and Enga – one.
Also in the last 24 hours, 153 new cases have been reported from 24 districts in 12 provinces including the Autonomous Region of Bougainville (AROB) thus increasing the national total COVID-19 cases to 9,952.
NCD reported 28 cases, the AROB Autonomous Region of Bougainville with 24 cases, New Ireland 10 cases, Central seven, Eastern Highlands two cases, Enga and Northern province a single case each, Jiwaka with three cases, Morobe 13 cases, West New Britain six and West Sepik and Western province 29 cases each.
Of the 153 cases, 98 are males, 51 females and four not stated. Their ages range between four to 72 years. At the time of testing, 66 cases were showing signs of COVID-19 whilst 45 were asymptomatic.
Globally, the total confirmed cases of COVID-19 is 140,322,903 including 809,004 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The global death toll is 3,003,794 including 11,481 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
Twenty-22 provinces in PNG including the AROB have reported cases.
