A great start for the PNG Barramundis in their opening ICC Men's T20 World Cup East-Asia Pacific Qualifiers against South Korea yesterday (Saturday), after defeating the South Koreans by 136 runs at Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin.
The Barras won the toss of the coin and elected to bat first as they made a total of 197 runs at the cost of 3 wickets in their 20 overs.
Veteran opening batsman Tony Ura who was awarded Player of the Match, made a blistering 106 runs from just 55 balls faced. While fellow opener Sese Bau was impressive with 59 runs from 41 balls.
Ura and Bau contributed 130 runs in their opening partnership to help the team reach 197 runs as Ura finished with his 106 not out player of the match performance.
In their run chase innings, South Korea could not handle the PNG bowlers well as they were all out for 61 in the 19th over.
Debutant Aue Oru was impressive in his first match with the ball as he collected 4 wickets from his allocated 4 overs. Lega Siaka contributed with 2 wickets of his Leg Spin bowling while Alei Nao, Bau and skipper Assad Vala contributed with 1 wicket each, as they reap through the South Korean batters.
The Barramundis will play Cook Island in their 2nd match today, Sunday 10th May.
