The PNG Hunters are pleased to announce the mid-season signing of experienced Papua New Guinean forward Sylvester Namo from the Brisbane Tigers.

Namo joins the Hunters effective immediately and will add valuable experience, leadership and professionalism to the squad as the club continues its 2026 Hostplus Cup campaign.

A powerful middle forward with extensive elite-level experience, Namo has previously been contracted within the North Queensland Cowboys system, where he featured in both the Queensland Cup and NRL development pathways. He also spent time overseas with the Castleford Tigers in the English Super League system, further broadening his professional rugby league experience.

PNG Hunters CEO Scott Barker said the club was excited to welcome a player of Namo’s calibre back into the PNG rugby league pathway.

“Sylvester brings valuable experience from both the Australian and UK systems, and we believe he will add real strength to our forward pack both on and off the field,” Barker said.

“Importantly, he understands the expectations and standards required at the professional level and will be a strong mentor for our younger players coming through the program.”

Namo said he was grateful for the opportunity to join the Hunters and represent Papua New Guinea once again.

“I’m excited to join the Hunters and contribute to the group for the remainder of the season and put my best foot forward towards again representing the Kumls at the upcoming Rugby League world Cup” Namo said.

“The club has a strong vision for the future building towards 2028 and I’m looking forward to helping the team continue building toward that success.”
