The Prime Minister James Marape paid tribute and acknowledged the Late Trevan Clough for his immense contributions to Papua New Guinea’s business sector and the lasting legacy he has left behind.
PM Marape paid this tribute in a statement released today, Sunday 2nd February 2025.
“For more than 57 years, Trevan Clough dedicated his life to the growth and success of the Brian Bell Group, contributing immensely to the business sector in Papua New Guinea,” Prime Minister Marape stated.
He acknowledged Mr. Clough’s pivotal role in shaping the company from its early days alongside Sir Brian Bell to its nationwide expansion.
He recalled that Mr. Clough was instrumental in developing key business divisions, including technical services, agriculture, and major projects.
“His leadership, vision, and deep commitment to PNG helped strengthen local enterprises, providing employment and essential services to our people,” Prime Minister Marape said.
As PNG marks 50 years of independence, the Prime Minister reflected on the contributions of individuals like Trevan Clough in building the nation.
“Trevan Clough was more than a corporate leader—he was a man who believed in the potential of Papua New Guinea and its people. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of business leaders and entrepreneurs in our country.”
Prime Minister Marape reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting businesses that drive national progress.
“Trevan Clough’s contribution will not be forgotten, and we join his family, colleagues, and friends in mourning his passing while celebrating his outstanding legacy.”
Meanwhile, the Brian Bell Group in a short statement said the Late Mr. Trevan was instrumental in the establishment of many of the company’s core institutions including the Technical Service division, the focus on the Agricultural sector in PNG, the Projects division, as well as the expansion of the business operation across PNG throughout the 1970’s, 80’s and beyond.
A right-hand man to Sir Brian in the early establishment of the Group, through to leading the organization into becoming one of PNG’s most respected, Trevan’s passion for the business, for its team members and for the customers has helped to shape the Brian Bell Group’s core values and to strengthen the focus on community.
Trevan truly loved his home of PNG and this business he built. While Trevan will be sadly missed, his immeasurable contribution to the Brian Bell Group and its strong heritage, will be long celebrated and forever remembered.
