Leaders of Tari and Hela need to seriously intervene and curb the escalating lawlessness in their provinces.
This is the call to attention from the Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Minister for Treasury, SOE & Forest, Douglas Tomuriesa, following the recent viral circulation of a teenage girl been harassed, raped and tortured by criminals.
“The animalistic abuse of our womenfolk in Hela is feloniously disheartening and I call on the PM to stop globetrotting and have the tenacity to go back and clean and disengage the so called warlords.”
The MP said what is happening in Hela & Tari as posted and circulated on social media is not normal and must be condemned in the strongest sense at all cost.
“If the PM has been very concerned with the hostage situation a week ago and went dishing out cash to free the hostages, it is now our call that the PM must deal with the criminals who treated this young girl inhumanely.”
Tomuriesa said this behavior must stop now and he urged Hela and Tari leaders start listening to the painful cries of the innocent women.
“It seems that our PM has completely lost his resolve to lead at the front. You have lost your moral bearings and cannot ground yourselve to confront issues affecting innocent women.”
“Where are the so called women rights activists and leaders who have been very vocal on women issues. I call upon all Hela leaders to stop what they’re doing and return to the province and deal with their local issues. That includes the PM and the Governor. How can you manage the whole nation when your backyard is managed by warlords.”
Mr Tomuriesa has called upon all leaders of PNG both in Government and Opposition, the church, NGO’s and others to rise up and speak for womenfolk in the country.
“I also make this call to all PNG leaders to give their support in allowing the United Nations Human Rights chair to be allowed into the country to deal with the situation in Hela especially with the abuse of women and girls that have been hidden and concealed for far too long.”
