Tedi Mining Limited has taken a major step towards securing its future beyond 2050.

Ok Tedi Chief Executive Officer Kedi Ilimbit made the announcement during the company's inaugural stakeholder roadshow, saying the company's future operations were expected to extend well beyond the current mining timeline.

The CEO said the company would now work with relevant government agencies and stakeholders to progress the necessary processes and approvals.

Ilimbit urges government agencies to support the process, stressing that Ok Tedi followed established procedures and needed cooperation from authorities to secure its long-term future. He says extending the mine's operational life would provide further opportunities to generate government revenue, create employment and support economic development across Papua New Guinea.

Ilimbit also highlighted the company's ability to continue operating despite recent challenges caused by historically low river levels, which disrupted traditional supply routes.

Ilimbit described Ok Tedi as a major national asset, saying its future was important not only to Western Province but to the entire country.
