The National Information and Communication Technology Authority (NICTA) celebrates the International Girls in ICT Day with the theme “Girls in ICT for inclusive digital transformation”.
The day is observed annually on the fourth Thursday of April; this day focuses on empowering girls and young women in the digital world.
NICTA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Kila Gulo-Vui said that this day aims to inspire girls to embrace ICT for their educational and socio -economic advancement and pursue careers in ICT Information and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Mr. Gulo-Vui said this year’s theme “Girls in ICT for inclusive digital transformation” emphasizes the urgent need for equal and equitable access to digital technology for all.
“The National Information and Communication Technology Authority (NICTA) is joining the global community to celebrate International Girls in ICT Day 2025.
Earmarked by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) this year’s global theme is aimed at.

Encourage the community and promote collaboration through partnerships
Promoting digital inclusivity and empowering girls and women in STEM
Recognizing the critical role of ICT in empowering young women and girls and addressing gender gaps in the digital world
NICTA has long recognized the transformative impact of empowering young women and girls to pursue careers in technology. Through its Girls in ICT (GICT) Program, NICTA has championed initiatives that inspire encourage and open doors for young women to thrive in ICT-related fields,” Mr. Gulo-Vui said.
He said that this program features fully funded scholarships for undergraduate degree programs for girls who want to pursue careers in ICT and STEM.
“Since its inception in 2016, the NICTA Girls in ICT Tertiary Scholarship provides a pathway for girls in technology, touching lives and making a huge difference in lives of those who have benefited from the program.
The NICTA Girls in ICT Scholarship running for the past nine years has seen a total of nineteen (19) women graduating from our main tertiary institutions. For this year, NICTA has also awarded scholarships to four (4) young girls to pursue a degree in ICT field at Unitech.
This inclusion brings the total number of our current NICTA GICT scholarships to eleven (11). To date, a total of nineteen (19) girls and young women have graduated under this program.
At this juncture, I would like to use this occasion to announce NICTA’s Graduate Development Program, which we will soon be recruiting young graduates. This initiative we believe will play a vital role in fostering talents within the ICT sector,” Mr. Gulo-Vui said.
He added that this program is designed to equip graduates with essential skills and practical experience, aligning seamlessly with the objectives of the Girls in ICT initiative by providing both young men and women opportunity here in contributing to a stronger, more diverse workforce that drives innovation and growth.
“International Girls in ICT Day is a moment to reflect on the importance of gender equity in technology. Technology plays a role in every aspect of life because learning tech skills will set up girls and young women for economic independence. At NICTA we observe this day because we believe that a more inclusive ICT sector is the key to a brighter, more innovative future,” he said.
