Police in New Ireland Province are asking all drivers to follow traffic rules on the roads, especially along the busy Boluminski Highway following the complaints from the public and other drivers suggest that some drivers are not respecting others on the road.
This lack of consideration has led to accidents, highlighting the need for safer and more responsible driving.
New Ireland Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Chief Inspector Albert Beli says as a result of this, Highway Patrol officers and other police units will be closely monitoring the roads, focusing on ensuring that all drivers respect one another during this busy festive season.
Chief Inspector Beli highlighted the seriousness of the situation after siting reports on such incidents.
“I have read and watched news across the country where accidents have taken lives and caused serious damage to vehicles and properties. These reports reflect the problem of drivers not respecting one another.”
“Traffic laws are in place, and we are actively addressing the issue. I want to warn all drivers and vehicle owners in New Ireland Province that police will be out in full force for our festive season operation. One of our key tasks will be to arrest drivers who fail to respect others and who are committing traffic offenses,” he said.
The PPC further emphasized that New Ireland is a peaceful province and that many visitors will travel there during the holidays. He urged local drivers to show respect to visitors, as doing so will help ensure that both locals and tourists can enjoy a safer driving experience.
He also reminded drivers that when picking up or dropping off passengers, they should do so at designated bus stops. If traveling along the highway, drivers should stop in safe locations that will not obstruct other vehicles. Passengers are also encouraged to wait in proper places to avoid causing inconvenience to other drivers.
“By respecting other drivers and following the traffic rules, we can all contribute to making the roads safer for everyone,” Chief Inspector Beli added.
