The Prestigious PNG Fashion Week Runway Show that was set for this month has been rescheduled.
That’s the word from Managing Director, Ms Philma Kelegai.
Ms Kelegai said the POM Fashion Week has been rescheduled from the 17th to the 26th June 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic issues.
This is done as they want to be COVID compliant and want to move the event well away from the period when the isolation ends to be safe on those for all involved.
“We have 13 runway shows and we have not yet finalized the number of designers yet and we expect to have
30 – 40 models that will participate in the runway shows.”
In terms of venues for the shows, PNG Fashion Week has secured Vison City Mega Mall and the Mosin Plaza at Gerehu; both venues are close partners and supporters of PNG Fashion Week.
In terms of the main finale runway show destination, this is a secret location set that is for guests only as it is an invite only event.
“We intend to saturate the market with all things fashion and really stimulate the local economy by creating opportunities for economic empowerment for everybody.”
Ms Kelegai added that the idea of the Port Moresby Fashion Week is to really elevate and highlight the local culture as they want to really promote the Motu Koitabu people and their culture so you will see a lot of movement from this region within the runway shows because as usual PNGFW is a performing arts-based platform.
“So we not only showcase our clothing, but we create art and movement and further enhance the experience of our fashion and culture through textile and fashion.”
“We don’t only focus on designers, we want artists, musicians who want to participate, they can contact us on our PNG Fashion Week Facebook page as there are some performance ideas they can participate in.”
“We are also inviting expeditioners this year so we will be giving expedition tables and we will be giving to people who will be interested to marketing their business and products as well so it is an opportunity for women who would want to market their products at this huge event.”
Ms Philma further stated that the POM Fashion Week always gets the crowd excited, and they always have thousands of visitors go past their events, so it is a ‘No Brainer’ if people want to market and push their products.
