The Nambis Storms have proved their worth with a win in the National Capital District (NCD) Governors Cup Finals against the 9mile Gateway Roster (9GR) in a golden point extra time victory on Friday 20th December.
Both teams were dominant in defence and attack which saw the match go into full time with a 4- points all draw. The match then went into extra time and saw the Nambis Storms scoring the final try and securing their win with an 8-4 victory and position them into the playoff finals victory.
Juggling the role as the Head Coach and player in the Nambis Storms, Mr. Joel Tom told PNG Hausbung the joy of fulfilling the team’s goal to secure their cup playoff finals. He emphasized that the hard work of training and preparations have paid off in the game.
Furthermore, Mr. Tom expressed gratitude to his teammates for giving their best throughout the entire game, especially into the golden point time. He stressed that the team, being old and forgotten in the Kone community, has been reviewed by the young boys and has done well. He also extended his thanks to the fans who came out to support and dedicated the win to them.
The team will face off against some of NCD’s toughest rugby teams in the final playoffs. Following this victory, Mr. Tom is now encouraging more boys in Kone to take part in rugby league.
