Air travelers using Port Moresby International Airport could benefit from safer and more efficient aircraft operations following the signing today in Port Moresby of a new apron management agreement between the National Airports Corporation and Niusky Pacific Limited.
National Airports Corporation (NAC), as the airport operator, and Niusky Pacific Limited (NSPL), the air traffic service provider, both welcomed the agreement, noting that such responsibilities had not previously been formally documented.
NAC Chief Operating Officer Manuai Kametan says, “The Service Level Agreement will establish clear accountability for airside infrastructure and service, encompassing instruments of landing systems (ISL), precision approach path indicators (PAPI) systems, runway lighting, and associated equipment.”
The Service Level Agreement (SLA) establishes clear operational responsibilities at the Port Moresby International Airport (PMIA), with NAC managing aircraft parking, pushback, and apron safety, while NSPL Tower coordinates aircraft movement between the apron and maneuvering areas.
The signing was witnessed by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) PNG and supports compliance with Civil Aviation Rule Part 139 requirements which basically work to strengthen coordination and to promote safe apron operations.
For NAC Operations, the SLA strengthens operational safety, improves coordination, and ensures compliance with aerodrome safety standards as the aerodrome operator.
