Some parts in Morobe Province are still facing landslides and rocks rolling down the mountains during windy times.
This has been happening after the recent 7.6 magnitude earthquake that hit Morobe.
In Wain Erap Local Level Government area in Nawaeb District, a man aged 52 from Lemang village got covered by landslides on Saturday morning.
He was walking from U.T camp to Bayang village when rocks rolled down the mountainous part of the area hit and pushed him down slopes. While struggling, landslides covered parts of his body.
Locals at the nearby communities rushed out, searched the landslide area and discovered parts of his remains popping out.
Ward six village recorder Boas Manaba said the locals were not able to move the deceased remains as moving stones have smashed his head and chest, making it difficult for locals to move in long distance.
Some parts of the areas are still facing the issue and locals have expressed concerns on authorities to assess the situations and educate them on potential risks.
Boas said public roads, bridges, gardens and communities located along the mountainous areas are facing threats as continuous landslides and rocks sliding down the mountains during windy times.
