Madang Police will launch a tough Christmas and New Year operation on 1 December, with Provincial Police Commander Superintendent Robert Baim warning that officers will act firmly to keep the province safe.
The operation, code-named Sain Abe 3, is aimed at preventing violence, controlling noise, stopping crime in settlements, and cracking down on homebrew and drug activity. Baim said police are prepared for the festive period, which often sees a rise in disorder.
“Public safety is our concern, and we will not hesitate to act,” he said.
He added that police will ensure communities celebrate peacefully. “Anyone who wants to disturb the peace will be identified, located and dealt with according to the law,” Baim said.
A key rule under the operation is the 10pm noise cutoff, with loud noise after this time leading to arrests. Police will also strictly enforce bail conditions, with no leniency for breaches. Raids, roadblocks, and searches will target homebrew, drugs, and trouble hotspots across Madang.
Water Police will patrol island communities to stop smuggling and maintain maritime safety. Community Policing Units will support their areas, while residents are urged to report incidents and cooperate with officers.
Baim thanked Governor Ramsey Pariwa and Provincial Administrator Daniel Aloi for their support, saying police will deliver a safe festive season “with or without resources.”
