The annual bike race event in Lae, which began in 2020, is set to take place this month, promising a day filled with fun, fitness, and family time.
Lae MP and Deputy Prime Minister, John Rosso, highlighted the significance of the event, emphasizing that it is more than just a race but a celebration that brings the community together.
“The event has been growing ever since its inception.”
“We encourage families, young people, and groups to ride their bikes and enjoy the beautiful city of Lae.”
Participants of all ages, from young children to grandparents, are expected to join in the festivities.
The event offers fantastic prizes, with up to 2,000 kina per event.
“Whether you’re a skilled rider or just looking to enjoy the day, come and experience the festivities.”
“We’ve had riders from Bulolo, Markham, and other Districts. This August, join us, win some beautiful prizes, and make new memories.”
The event will also provide an opportunity for friendly interactions, handshakes, and photo opportunities.
“I’ll be there too, mingling, talking, and taking pictures. I can’t wait to meet you all.”
This year’s Rosso Mountain Bike Race has already garnered significant interest, with around 400 registrations and 1,100 participants.
Rosana Arnold, the event’s registrar, shared her excitement about the impressive turnout.
“We’ve got categories for everyone—from 7 to 18 years old, boys and girls, and adults too.”
“The registration fees are super affordable: just 5 kina for ages 7-15 and 10 kina for 16 and up.”
Riders are coming from various regions, including Finshapfen, Munum, Bulolo, and Gebensis, with approximately 30 riders from each area.
Arnold also announced an exciting raffle for this year, with 1,000 bikes up for grabs.
“Last year, we had 100 winners, but this year, we’re offering 1,000 raffle tickets with three different bike sizes.
“400 winners will score size 26 bikes, 300 will win size 20 bikes, and another 300 will grab size 16 bikes.”
Raffle tickets are just 1 kina each, available at the event office or directly from the team.
To raise awareness, the event’s organizers have been active on the Rosso Mountain Bike Facebook page and recently held a float with 50 to 80 riders showcasing the event banner.
“Don’t miss out! Come register and be part of the action.”
“Registration is open for another two weeks at the Lae District – let’s make this the biggest race yet!”
The event is set against the backdrop of the vibrant city of Lae, with exciting footage from past races showing people cheering and the city bustling with life
