Kugypt is this young talented and energetic Singer and Rapper who is very melodic over hard hitting drums and his music and style differs from the contemporary music we hear every day making him sometimes feels like an outsider especially in the PNG local music industry and in the Pacific Islands.
“Currently my style is similar to the likes of Travis Scott, Swae Lee and Drake and somewhere in between those three international artists but my sound is still developing so most days in the studio I am figuring out new stuff”, explained Kugypt.
The 24 year old has collaborated his talents alongside Solomon Island band, Dezine’s lead vocalist SeanRii to work on his hit singles such as Guardian Angel, Don’t Leave Me, Seh Seh, Cintaku and Loyal, just to name a few.
“When I collaborate with SeanRii, I bring out my alter ego side which I call ‘Kugyptian’ and Kugyptian has more of an Island, Dancehall and an Afro vibe to him”, said Kugypt.
Describing his style of music, Kugypt said that he was influenced by Hip-Hop & Rap from early age international artists like 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Lil -Wayne and Kanye West so his music has a fusion of Hip-Hop & Trap, a Wave of Rap and Low-Fi and with an ambient kind of vibe.
From a mixed parentage of Papua New Guinea, German, Scotland and America, this young lad released a Mixtape called ‘PX’ in January 2021 followed by a current Mixtape which was released in the middle of April called ‘Mood Swings’ which had 7 awesome tracks titled; Mood Swings Intro, Wanted Something More, Birthday Behavior, Ori Lewa which featured SeanRii, Know I Know, Straight Business and Love Is Woke.
“I have not released an album yet, although in 2018, I released a Demo Tape titled ‘So it Begins’ followed by a Mixtape called ‘On The Way’ in that same year”, said Kugypt.
Kugypt explained that a Mixtape is a compilation of music or body of work that he has created for people to consume and at the same time to show his potential and his experiments with his kind of sound and what he creates.
“I am currently working on my next Mixtape which will be my best work to date and I cannot wait to have this project released for the sake of my listeners, my fans, those that vibe with me and my music and those that appreciate it especially. And maybe in the future I will put out a Mixtape under my alter ego Kugyptian”, said Kugypt proudly.
When Kugypt is not cooking up a storm in the studio, he is watching movies. That’s basically what he loves doing most of the time.
“But at the moment, I hardly have time for that since I am working on my next Mixtape and honestly if you know me, I am always in the studio, it’s home for me”, said Kugypt.
Most times, you will hear this artist talk about his experiences growing up in a third world country like Papua New Guinea, his childhood upbringing, his relationships, the women of this country, the trials and tribulations day in and day out.
“I am honest with my music and I like talking about things that are tangible in my life and it has to have a connection with me and it has to be real and I cannot make stuff up, I am not that type of artist”, he sternly explained.
Kugypt, however said when he was 6 years old, he always wanted to make music and looking back to the couple of years, he said that it has been quite a journey musically.
“I was inspired by my vision and I know that what I want is what I will engage in whole heartedly and to take this to a whole new level got me on my feet 24/7”, said Kugypt.
“I am like ‘let’s get this!’ and if you are really about this life then you know it won’t stop”, added Kugypt.
Kugypt has collaborated with Mak Zaddy and some of Australian based PNG singers and also with SeanRii whose relationship in music is strong.
To his fans, Kugypt said that he’d like to thank everyone who have been following his music movements and those that vibe with his music.
“I appreciate you all and I will keep moving and all you have to do is keep up!” said Kugypt.
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide, it has delayed Kugypt’s tour along with his team to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Indonesia, Solomon Islands and Hawaii.
Kugypt concluded that he plans on taking his music as far as he can and his vision is to move to America and pursue music there to really take this as far as I can.
Kugypt is currently based here in Port Moresby and will move back to Australia once the rate and spread of COVID-19 decreases.
