The 2024 Grand Finalists of the Koni Tiger League, the Kagua Woodman (KW) suffered a tough defeat against the 54 Bears 4-0 on Friday at the Koni Tigers Oval in Port Moresby.
Despite effort towards preparations and plan to bring home a win in the Cup Playoffs, the 54 Bears were too determined to submit.
They took the first and final try in first half following an unsuccessful conversion.
Despite the unsuccessful conversion, the 54 Bears stood their ground in defence and attack holding the KW in a stagnant position to the full-time score of 4-0.
The KW have now fallen into the Governor’s Cup plate playoffs, which will see them display another thrilling and exciting match against their next opponent.
The KW Head Coach Darius Kuna expressed his disappointment to PNG HAUSBUNG regarding the lack of active field official, to watch closely and carefully offences and penalties during the match.
Coach Kuna emphasized deep respect for the fellow officials however, he believed the outcome may have been different if the officials were proactive in their roles especially quick movement on the field to properly identifying faults especially lines man.
He stressed that the lack of active momentum and visual communication between the field official were not swift enough to call out penalties fairly.
While suffering a defeat, the KW remain confident and are now set for the plate playoffs and look to preparations.
The KW now await the draw for their scheduled plate playoffs.
