About the Role

PNGFM Limited is seeking an experienced and reliable Transmission Engineer to manage and maintain our radio transmission infrastructure across Papua New Guinea.

The successful applicant will help ensure our radio stations remain on air by maintaining transmission equipment, responding to outages, managing transmission sites and delivering engineering projects.

This role requires strong technical skills, leadership ability and a willingness to travel to regional and remote transmission sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain PNGFM’s transmission systems and equipment.
  • Respond quickly to transmission faults, outages and emergencies.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance, inspections, testing and repairs.
  • Install, commission and upgrade transmission equipment.
  • Manage generators, antenna systems, feed-lines, UPS systems, RF combiners and surge protection systems.
  • Plan and deliver engineering projects within approved budgets and timelines.
  • Manage contractors, suppliers, equipment purchases and spare parts.
  • Maintain accurate technical records and an updated transmission asset register.
  • Ensure transmission sites meet licensing, safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise and support transmission technicians and other technical staff.
  • Develop contingency plans to help keep PNGFM broadcasting during emergencies or equipment failures.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports to management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least five years’ experience in a transmission, broadcast engineering or similar technical role.
  • A diploma or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Radio Communications, Telecommunications, Information Technology or a related field.
  • Experience working with FM radio transmission systems and broadcast equipment.
  • Experience maintaining remote transmission sites and supporting infrastructure.
  • Experience managing technical projects, contractors and budgets.

Technical Knowledge

  • FM transmitters and power amplifiers
  • Antenna systems and feed-lines
  • Generators and changeover panels
  • Transmission UPS systems
  • Power surge protection systems
  • RF combiners
  • Transmission huts and site infrastructure
  • Transmitter fault finding, diagnostics and repairs

Additional Requirements

  • Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
  • Good project planning, budgeting and reporting skills.
  • Good leadership and team management ability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and respond calmly during outages.
  • A current Class 3 and/or Class 6 driver’s licence.
  • Experience driving in remote or off-road locations.
  • Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Papua New Guinea.
  • Willingness to work after hours, on weekends and public holidays when required.
