The Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Timothy Masiu officially opened the ICT Learning Center for Boera Primary School in Boera Village in Central Province on Wednesday 21st May 2025.
The ICT Learning Center comes under the National Information and Communication Technology Authority (NICTA’s) Universal Access Service (UAS) Connectivity Project giving ICT accessibility and services to the students.
ICT Minister Masiu stated that he made a commitment a few years ago to give something back to the village and he is now fulfilling this commitment of providing an ICT Learning Center to the students of Boera Primary and Community as well to benefit from.
“I am pleased to bring digital transformation to Boera village, and I am pleased to announce that the primary school is a recipient of 20 new computers and accessories.
The school will have access to high-speed broadband internet for 2 years paid for by the government under the UAS ICT project is managed by NICTA.
The facility comes with better power supply to ensure access to services and to make sure service are not disrupted by power outages,” Minister Masiu said.
He added that working in partnership, they can achieve more as this impressive building is fully equipped with digital resources, and it is a testament to that.
“This is just one of many more projects to come under the UAS project that will empower our nation and bring us closer to a digitally connected inclusive society.
The support of all the stakeholders has shown the successful deployment of this project. It is important moving forward to ensuring sustainability with a clear focus on long-term benefits for all.
The facility launched today, will serve as a resource hub for will serve as a resource hub for learning, creativity and collaboration,” Minister Masiu said.
He said the facility will provide access to high-speed internet, modern computer systems and expat training to empower individuals with the skills required for the future.
“Boera Primary School is part of the Connect schools’ program under the 2024 UAS projects and it is under the broadband initiative UAS plan 2023-2027.
This project is an example of what can be achieved through close collaboration with government, the stakeholders and the local communities,” Minister Masiu said.
