The SP PNG Hunters are set to meet the Tweed Head Seagulls tomorrow in Gold Coast Australia and Head Coach Paul Aiton is expecting some good performance from the boys, having prepared well over the week in preparation of the match.
In an interview with PNG HAUSBUNG, Coach Aiton said during the preparation, he stressed the importance of consistency in training and game execution, especially when playing away from home.
Aiton stressed that it was a good and productive week of preparations. He underlined one key aspect of this preparation, which is goal-kicking, an area where Jamie Mavako, the team’s try convertor, has shown dedication through daily practice.
While he had an off day failing to convert over two conversions in the home match, Aiton expressed confidence in his ability to bounce back, citing his work ethic and commitment.
Aiton also addressed the impact of young talent within the squad, including Graham Rex who has shown significant growth both on and off the field and is now the 18th man for upcoming match. The team’s approach emphasizes gradual development, where younger players are given opportunities to build confidence and showcase their abilities through their relentless efforts in training and discipline.
Meanwhile, Aiton dismissed concerns regarding travel difficulties affecting performance, reinforcing that the team’s weekly preparation remains unchanged regardless of location.
Coach Aiton is urging fans to rally behind the Hunters for this new season, as the team gears up for the upcoming match including the first ANZAC Day clash against Burley Bears, a history in itself. Aiton believes a strong home crowd plays a crucial role in boosting team morales.
He said with the team’s unwavering focus on preparation and improvement, they are set to face upcoming challenges with determination and discipline, striving for excellence in every match.
The match will take place at the Cbus Super Stadium at Gold Coast, Australia at 2:10pm in the afternoon.
