HOHOLA OFF-SEASON TO RECONVENE IN EARLY JANUARY 2026

The Hohola Off-Season League in Port Moresby city will reconvene in early January 2026 in order to allow the for the smooth running of the current 2025 Governor’s Cup (GC) tournament, which has recently seen some issues pop up regarding the use of the Hohola Ipi Park venue.

Speaking to PNG HAUSBUNG, the President Mr. Kambi Igiman stated that the two-weeks pause on the off-season competition was to allow the GC tournament access to the venue.

“The Hohola Off-Season will continue in January and conclude around February.”

He emphasized that the two weeks will be during the Christmas and New Year period and after the 2 weeks break, the off-season will continue with rounds 6 and 7 because at the moment the games have stopped at round-5.

Despite the lack in corporate sponsorship in recent years, Mr. Igiman remains confident for a successful season following a strict budget set to allocate management objectives through registration and match fees.

He praised the National Capital District (NCD) Governor Powes Parkop for the continuous financial support as well.

“Although funding was allocated by Governor Parkop, the late attainment of funds due to the NCD Funding process, has led to more additional challenges in reimbursing equipment use and the processing of management salaries.”

“We lack in sponsorship but otherwise we are able to move forward in match coordination.”

Mr. Igiman stressed that despite the challenges, his staff came to an agreement to move forward while using registration fees to cater for game expenses.

According to Mr. Igiman, the full off-season duration remains at 16-20 weeks, and the management remains hopeful for timely funding to allow for the smooth coordination of things.
