The Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) has officially congratulated Hekari PNG Football Club on successfully meeting all compliance requirements to compete in the inaugural OFC Professional League, set to kick off in January 2026.
In a statement released today, the PNGFA Executive Committee and Secretariat commended the club for achieving a milestone that marks a new era in PNG football.
Hekari PNG FC fulfilled all six compliance categories outlined under the OFC Club Licensing Regulations, including:
· Sporting Criteria: Youth development and certified coaching staff
· Infrastructure: Meeting stadium and training facility standards
· Personnel & Administration: Professional staffing and structure
· Legal Compliance: Proper legal entity status and club statutes
· Financial Management: Audited accounts and sound budget planning

“This is not just a triumph for one club—it’s a proud moment for all of Papua New Guinea,” said the PNGFA Secretariat. “Hekari’s qualification sends a clear message to young footballers across the country: there is now a credible, professional pathway to the top.”
Hekari PNG FC’s journey began in 2002 as Souths United FC at Bisini Soccer Grounds. Since rebranding to Hekari United FC in 2006, the club has become a dominant force in domestic football, culminating in another strong showing during the 2024 Premier Soccer League season.
Their entry into the OFC Professional League symbolizes more than just competitive achievement; it represents years of dedication, discipline, and strategic development within the club.
PNGFA also acknowledged Lae City Football Club for their earnest bid to qualify for the league, applauding their efforts as a sign of the growing unity and ambition within PNG’s football community.
“Hekari PNG FC’s success is a testament to what can be achieved through perseverance and belief,” the statement continued. “As a football nation, we move forward together—with a shared vision for excellence, growth, and international recognition.”
As the countdown to the 2026 OFC Professional League begins, PNGFA extended its best wishes to Hekari PNG FC and reaffirmed its support for clubs striving to elevate Papua New Guinea football to global standards.
