The ENB Agmark Gurias are through to the 2025 Digicel ExxonMobil Cup Preliminary Finals following an Intense Semi-Final Showdown at the Santos National Football Stadium on Sunday, August 31.
The Gurias triumphed 14-9 over a determined Moni Plus NCDC Pom Vipers, with late tries and a strong defensive stand proving the difference in a match that kept supporter on their toes until the final second.
Although the Gurias heavy forward Muka Peter sealed the final try to win in the final 3 minutes, star winger Chris Benjamin was the star for the Gurias side, crossing for two tries in the first and second half. Despite Joshua Mire failing two conversions, he added a conversion to push the Gurias ahead when it mattered most.
Meanwhile, Vipers Roger Kenny provided their only try in the 15th minute after failed try attempts, while halfback Ben Fege kept them in the contest with a perfect kicking display, landing a conversion, a penalty goal, and a field goal. His efforts narrowed the margin to just a point late in the second half before the Gurias’ final surge.
The match was a physical competition, with both sides testing each other in defence and trading blows in a tactical kicking duel. But it was the Gurias’ ability to finish strong and execute under pressure that booked their ticket to the Preliminary Final.
The victory means the Gurias will now be on standby for the next stage of the finals, while the Vipers bow out after a brave campaign that fell just short of a Grand Final charge.
With momentum on their side, the Gurias will be looking to carry their form into the Preliminary Final against the PRK Mendi Muruks, as they continue their push for Digicel ExxonMobil Cup glory.
