GOVERNOR-GENERAL PRAISES SALVATION ARMY AT RED SHIELD APPEAL GOLF EVENT

The Governor General of Papua New Guinea Sir Bob Dadae has commended the Salvation Army for its decades of service, describing it as a pillar of hope for communities across Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Speaking at the Red Shield Appeal charity golf event at Royal Papua New Guinea Golf Club on Friday, Sir Bob highlighted the organization's 70-year presence in the country and its continued impact on vulnerable communities.

“As Patron of the Red Shield Appeal, I am honoured by your presence at this meaningful gathering that reflects community spirit, generosity, and purpose,” he said.

Sir Bob Dadae said The Salvation Army has gone beyond its church mission, providing critical support to people facing poverty, limited access to services, and the effects of natural disasters.

“Whether it is food for the hungry, shelter for the homeless, or comfort for those in distress, their work has restored dignity and brought hope to countless Papua New Guineans,” he said.

He also acknowledged the organization's role in strengthening communities through spiritual guidance, youth development, and outreach programs that promote discipline, purpose and leadership.

Sir Bob noted that during times of crisis, The Salvation Army is often among the first to respond and the last to leave, demonstrating compassion and service without discrimination.

He encouraged corporate partners, community leaders, and individuals to continue supporting the Red Shield Appeal, saying contributions made would directly help those in need.

“Each contribution becomes a lifeline of hope for someone in need. By supporting this cause, we are investing in stronger communities and a better future for our country,” he said.

The Governor-General also recognized the efforts of the Territorial Advisory Board and sponsors for their continued commitment and voluntary service.

He concluded by urging continued support for The Salvation Army’s mission of serving people, strengthening communities, and transforming lives.
