K58 million from the government’s tuition fee subsidy funds has been remitted to the bank accounts of Flexibles, Open and Distance Education (FODE), Secondary, National High and Vocational schools.
The Minister for Education Jimmy Uguro confirmed that out of the K486.3 million allocated for this year, a total of K 248.5 million has been released so far.
From that allocation, a total of K 222.5 million has been paid to schools with K 237.8 million still outstanding for Terms 3 and 4.
“I want to remind all the schools and their administrations once again to use the money wisely and spend only on priority areas that will improve the teaching and learning in their school,” said Minister Uguro
The Minister also called on all school boards and administrators to use some portion of these funds to support education in emergency and WaSH programs in their schools in order to prevent the spread of the Corona virus.
“I thank the national government for continuing to honor its commitment by making funds available to pay the schools despite the difficult economic situation the country is facing,” Uguro said.
