The Papua New Guinea Government represented by the Department of National Planning and Monitoring, the Education Department, the Office of the National Authorising Officer and the European Union are set to Commission close to 60 structures in seven institutions starting next month.
Bulolo Technical and Vocational Education Training Centre (TVET), in Morobe Province is one of the ten (10) TVET centres that have benefited from the 10th European Development Fund (EDF) under the Programme, Human Resource Development Project Phase 2 (HRDP.2).
Building Infrastructures awaiting commissioning are, classrooms, dormitories, teacher houses, workshops and ablution blocks.
Tools, equipment and machines supplied are to enhance teaching and student learning in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, auto mechanic, welding and tourism and hospitality.
Total grant from the EU under the HRDP.2 is approximately K86.8 million and covered areas of infrastructure, TVET teacher training and supplying of tools and equipment for trade skills and providing on the job training for TVET students in selected school K38 million of that funding was used for critical buildings infrastructures for these institutions such as workshops, administration buildings, teacher houses, classrooms, dormitories and ablution blocks.
A further K8.9 Million kina was made available across all these schools to fund the procurement of tools and machines for the trade courses.
Whilst Morata TVET in National Capital District (NCD), Umi TVET in Morobe and Yawasore TVET in East Sepik Province building infrastructures and tools and equipment have been inaugurated by the Government and the European Union in 2019 and 2020 respectively. Bulolo plus six others are anticipated to be commissioned next month (June 2021).
All these projects have been completed and waiting commissioning however, due to the outbreak of Coronavirus or COVID-19 the commissioning could not happen as planned.
The centres to be inaugurated include Bulolo , Badili in NCD, Raval and Kabaira in East New Britain, Kamiliki in Eastern Highlands and Pompapus and Laiagam both in Enga Province.
These commissioning will signify the transfer of the building infrastructures and the tools and equipment from the Contracting Authority in this case the National Authorising Officer, representing the Government of Papua New Guinea and EU the development partner to the individual schools and the Department of Education.
Delivery of this project is aimed at complementing the Medium-Term Development Plan 3 (MTDP-3) and that is developing skilled resources needed to contribute to employment and the country’s’ development.
