The Grade 5 Criminal Court at the District level in Waigani in Port Moresby city took action yesterday regarding two cases involving former National Airport Corporation (NAC) Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Rex Kiponge, deferring them to today, Wednesday March 20th.
Mr. Kiponge and his legal counsel were notably absent from the courtroom proceedings on Tuesday 19th March, set for mention, prompting Magistrate Albert Daniels to stand down both matters.
These cases originate from 2022, stemming from charges brought against Mr. Kiponge by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
In November 2022, Mr. Kiponge was formally charged under section 280 of the Civil Aviation Act 2000.
The charges revolve around allegations of operating the Nadzab Airport in Morobe Province and the Kiunga Airport in Western Province without valid aerodrome certificates.
