The Tokarara Dikagari Road in Port Moresby city continues to receive excavation work as a crucial step in ensuring a solid foundation for the road rehabilitation following its deteriorating condition, which accumulated over the years.
The Niugini Engineering and Procurement Services Limited (NEPS) commenced excavation along the Dikagari road, beginning at the border of Hohola and Tokarara and will continue work on the length of the road and completing excavation at the roundabout at Kora-Way.
NEPS Project Manager Mr. Lawrence Blehe on Wednesday 3rd April, highlighted to PNG HAUSBUNG that thorough cutting and filling are essential for stabilizing depressions along the road.
Mr. Blehe emphasized that 1000 meters of excavation had been completed and contributed to covering nearly 50% of the targeted work. The cut-and-fill technique is employed to level uneven terrain, ensuring the road is structurally sound. Precision in excavation minimizes soil erosion while preparing the site for durable pavement layers.
The Excavation team conducted quality control measures, including soil compaction and verification tests, are conducted to confirm the foundation’s strength.
The Excavation Team, Drainage Team and Survey Team conducted an integration of advanced engineering methods to ensure that the road withstands heavy traffic and harsh weather conditions. This phase is not just about earth-moving, but about creating a long-lasting infrastructure that meets safety and durability standards.
The Dikagari Road extending from Hohola through to Tokarara and ending at June Valley, plays a crucial role in the residents’ daily access to essential services and will serve its purpose efficiently after its completion.
