The Papua LNG is a step closer to getting things off the ground after receiving an Environmental Permit from the Conservation and Environmental Protection Authority (CEPA).
The upstream Level 3 (L3) Environmental Permit for the Papua LNG project was presented to the developer of the project, Total Energies EP PNG Limited (TEP PNG).
The project is progressing towards a Final Investment Decision (FID) and this environmental permit is the boost TEP PNG needs to progressing further to getting the project commencing.
The Permit outlines conditions for the Upstream component including the development of Environmental and Social Management Plants (ESMPs), which details how potential impacts will be mitigated, monitored and reported through the project life cycle.
The permit ensures public participation and transparency, allowing stakeholders to voice concerns, contribute knowledge and be included in discussions.
CEPA’s Managing Director Mr. Jude Tukuliya handed the L3 permit to TotalEnergies EP PNG Public Affairs Manager Mr. Richard Kassman, signifying a step forward for the project.
Mr. Tukuliya added, “This significant milestone will lead to alignment to Prime Minister James Marape and governments aim of having nearly K200 billion worth of oil, gas and mining projects in the next 15 years.”
