The National Capital District (NCD) Governor’s initiative for the NCD City Wardens is tackling two critical issues in Port Moresby, youth unemployment and urban safety.
The City Wardens initiative has provided 70 youths with jobs while contributing to crime reduction and community security.

He emphasized that in the City Wardens agreement to better their members, the young members of the City Warden will soon be prioritized for improving their ability in Police Recruitment, Civil Services or the Labour Mobility Scheme.
While the initiative has created job opportunities, it also faces challenges like limited resources, which can hinder effective deployment, and the occasional lack of cooperation from local communities.
According to Mr. Madox, some youths struggle with adapting to the disciplined nature of their duties, causing occasional lapses in performance.
Despite these hurdles, the program has helped youth gain skills and offers them pathways into formal employment, such as the police force or civil services.
The initiative plans to expand, providing further opportunities for youth to contribute to the city’s security while securing their future.
Through this initiative, the NCD Governor is fostering a sense of responsibility and reducing youth involvement in crime. As the program continues to grow, it is expected to not only reduce unemployment but also build a more secure and empowered community in Port Moresby.
