Warriors hooker Wayde Egan was sent to hospital in Hamilton after suffering a throat injury midway through the first half of his side’s clash with the Wests Tigers on Saturday night.
Egan went down after being hit by the elbow of Stefano Utoikamanu, which saw the Wests Tigers prop put on report, while attempting to make a tackle in the 23rd minute.
While Egan passed a HIA and was set to rejoin the bench, the call was made to instead send him to hospital as a precaution.
“At this stage he is fine, he has gone to hospital for a check-up… when you are hit in the throat [if] something goes wrong you want to be in hospital,” coach Andrew Webster said.
The Eels have confirmed Mitchell Moses suffered a suspected fractured eye socket with scans to possibly rule him out for up to six weeks
The injury is likely to rule Moses out for the remainder of the season and to compound the blow, the side also lost forward Andrew Davey in the 46th minute to a failed head injury assessment.
