Deputy Opposition Leader, James Nomane, has called for the immediate resignation of Prime Minister James Marape, blaming him for the surge in violent crimes across Papua New Guinea.
“Hundreds of innocent lives have been lost under his watch because he has not prioritized the Police,” Nomane said.
He also criticized the government for failing to fix the economy, saying the poor conditions have led to desperation and crime.
“Gun-toting criminals and machete-wielding murderers commit gory crimes and reign with terror,” he said. He emphasized that the Marape government must step aside for better leadership.
Nomane further urged all Members of Parliament to take action, condemning the government’s failure to ensure public safety.
“PNG simply cannot normalize beheadings and mass killings.”
He also highlighted that the ongoing economic mismanagement, under Treasurer Ian Ling-Stuckey, has worsened the situation.
Nomane also suggested that instead of focusing on an NRL bid with Australia, Marape should be asking for Australian police assistance to strengthen PNG’s police force and restore safety.
He argued that the Prime Minister has failed to provide the necessary resources and leadership to the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC).
Nomane warned that the country’s law-and-order issues will worsen under Marape’s leadership, stating, “The law-and-order situation will only get worse because of this inveterate leadership failure.”
He called for an urgent “hard reset” in the government, saying, “All MPs must hold this Prime Minister to account and demand that he resigns.”
