Enga Provincial Government has strongly condemned the recent murder of teacher in Hela Province and torching of a Mapai Transport Vehicle in Western Highlands.
This announcement was addressed in a recent statement from the Office of Enga Governor Peter Ipatas on 28th February 2025.
This alarming concern highlights the recent death of an Engan teacher in Hela Province and a Mapai Transport vehicle torched at Kuli Gap in Western Highlands.
“Enga’s issues are internal, stemming from tribal conflicts within Enga, rather than with other provinces.”
“We have lost a promising young life in late Mr. Rickson Poko.”
“The young Enga teacher at Hope Institute was serving not only the Hela people but Papua New Guineans.”
“I have spoken to Prime Minister Hon. James Marape and Hela Governor Hon. Philip Undialu and they have assured me they will bring the perpetrator to justice in Tari.”
“Meanwhile, I ask the family and relatives of the late Mr. Poko to be patient and await justice as promised by our leaders.”
He further stressed that the Engan trucking company Mapai Transport, serves the Highlands and Momase regions by transporting essential goods to other centres.
The people of Kuli Gap in Western Highlands Province are urged to take responsibility and bring the perpetrators who burnt the truck to justice.
Governor Ipatas concluded urging the Engan people to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, but allow the law to take its course while the leaders address the issues during these distressing times.
