Madang Province has a new primary school and it’s all thanks to the efforts of the residents of Sein village who raised K35, 000 to build a new double classroom for the recently established Sein Primary School.
The funds were raised without any government support and were a testament to the community’s unwavering perseverance, diligence, and commitment.
The occasion was witnessed by senior public servants, community leaders and the governor of Madang Ramsey Pariwa who had the honour of ribbon cutting.
Kurere Matanza a youth community leader spoke on his experiences working with the people of Sein.
“I’ve been working with the community for more than four years now and the classroom is one part of the project that we’ve initiated that started in August 2023.”
“Prior to this we had built another classroom, followed by a teacher’s house which was built from K10, 000 worth of building materials.”
“The classroom itself was financed by the local people from their sales of betel nut, mustard and mini fundraising drives conducted in the community.”
“I just donated stationery to help kick-start the school’s operations and also established early childhood education programs.”
Matanzana added that they are currently working on a school code which will give the school access to Tuition Fee Subsidy (TFS) and he is also conducting a similar project at Umun Dalam, Ward 20, Ambenob Rural LLG.
Meanwhile, Governor Pariwa pledged K50, 000 to help with the school’s extension.
Sein Primary School will act as a feeder supplying grades 9 and 10 students to Transgogol and Behir High Schools.
Sein Primary School was officially opened on Sunday, February 4th and conducted its first classes on Monday, February 5th.
