Papua New Guinea marked a historic milestone on October 19, 2025, when Pope Leo XIV canonized Saint Peter ToRot, making him the first Papua New Guinean officially recognized as a Saint by the Catholic Church.
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands hailed this canonization as a moment of national pride and spiritual significance.
General Secretary of Catholic Bishops' Conference of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands Father Lawrence Arockiaraj, said that Saint Peter ToRot's life of faith, courage, and devotion to family serves as a model not only for Papua New Guinea, but for the world and the Universal Church.
The Catholic Bishops Conference of Papua New Guinea Solomon Islands encourages the faithful to seek the intercession of Saint Peter ToRot, trusting in his guidance and example as a source of spiritual inspiration.
