Often in fire emergency situations, a fire extinguisher is an active fire protection device used to extinguish or control small fires and it is not an easy task putting out fires during a fire emergency as it takes skills, courage and a lot of critical thinking and most importantly quick reaction when attempting to extinguish fires.
22 participants from the Lae International School successfully completed a 3 day Fire Extinguisher training at the Buablong Boarding Campus in Lae on the basic handling of the fire extinguishers, the different types of fire extinguishers and the different components of the fire extinguishers conducted by the Bula PNG Limited.
Bula PNG Limited Managing Director, Isidore Tutanava said that it was a pleasure conducting the basic training on fire extinguishers for schools and imparting the knowledge to young Papua New Guineans.
“This training was very important because when there is a fire, you have to identify what type of fire it is and the right fire extinguisher you should use when attempting to put out the fire.
He also said that you have to know the components of the fire extinguisher you are using and if it is in service or not so that in the event of an emergency, you will not face any trouble or delay.
“Most schools and companies only install the fire extinguishers but fail to train the students and their workers on how to properly handle the extinguishers and during fire emergencies, they do not know how to operate or even handle the extinguishers”, said Isidore.
BULA PNG Limited is a nationally owned company which has been in operation since July 2020 and provides services which are diversified into Fire, Air-Condition, Electrical, Pest Control and Civil Road Works.
“With only five employees, we are mainly targeting our training’s on Youths who are less fortunate in securing spaces in higher institutions with an aim to impart skills and knowledge”, said Tutanava.
He said that apart from installation of Fire Extinguishers, they also run free training both Theory and Practical to clients who engage with them to make them aware of the importance of Fire Safety and how to be able to respond to Fire.
Mr Tutanava said the staff at the Lae International Hotel will be next to undergo the fire extinguisher training.
