The Special Nursery Care Ward at Port Moresby General Hospital has been experiencing a high number of admissions as of early this year and the mother and babies are in need of the people’s assistance. For an average of 1000 births per month at the labor ward, the special nursery care takes in half of the total number due to low birth weight, maternity mortality and other underlying medical conditions concerning the mother and baby. Air Niugini has advised the traveling public that their flights to and from Rabaul have been further downgraded from Q400 aircraft to Dash 8 due to the continuous runway repair works at Tokua airport, Rabaul. The National Airports Corporation (NAC) according to a statement, has reduced the operating runway length to allow for critical repairs as well as to ensure safe operations, hence, Air Niugini’s restriction to limited Dash 8 operations only.
