The Coalition of Parliamentarians to End Gender-Based Violence met earlier this week to discuss their plans for the coming year, including their efforts to support reserved seats for women in the National Parliament ahead of the June 2022 national elections. The partnership was formed to help the weavers of remote Mt Bosavi in Southern Highlands sell their bilums in the lead up to Mother’s Day. Papua New Guinea has recorded two new COVID-19 deaths this week, increasing the total number of deaths to 107. The deaths were reported in Morobe and in the National Capital District. Morobe reported the death of a 53-year-old female whilst NCD recorded the death of a 57-year-old female. Police have arrested and detained a 29 year old male for the murder of his two sons aged 5 and 3 at Port Moresby’s Morata One settlement on Tuesday April 27. NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Gideon Ikumu said Forensic and Homicide detectives attended the crime scene yesterday and immediately arrested and detained the suspect while bodies of the two victims were taken to the mortuary at the Port Moresby General hospital.
