With less than forty days to the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympic Games, five more athletes have been confirmed to represent Team PNG next month. With the two Sailing, siblings of Teariki Numa and Rose-Lee Numa already qualified, that brings seven athletes confirmed to attend the Olympic Games in Tokyo from 23 July to 8 August 2021. Air Niugini would like to advise customers that the Australian Government has extended the suspension of international arrivals into Cairns until at least the 30th June. This is in order to manage the risk of arriving passengers subsequently testing positive for COVID-19 during their stay in quarantine facilities. Papua New Guinea has recorded two new COVID-19 deaths and eight new cases in the last 24 hours ending 12 midday on Tuesday June, increasing the total number of deaths to 167 and total cases to 16,799. Manus province recorded its first COVID-19 death. The death of a 72-year-old male and a 60-year-old female both with underlying comorbidities were reported as Manus’ first recorded deaths.
