It is with regret that as the Chairman of PNG Power Limited (PPL), announce the resignation of the Managing Director, Mr Flagon Bekker, effective immediately. Mr. Bekker’s decision to leave the organisation after 9 months are based on personal reasons. The Chairman has indicated the appointment of Mr. Obed Batia as Officer in Charge of PNG Power, whilst a more formal engagement is finalised. Mr. Batia has over 30 years of service with the company and has served the Leadership Team with distinction and possesses outstanding credentials. There is an overwhelming community support from residents of Edai town towards the injured school kids and their families. Since the school bus accident on Tuesday morning, 22nd June, a meeting was called by residents where an interim committee was appointed and the following day, funds were raised through a wheel barrow push within Edai town estate. Papua New Guinea has recorded 19 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday June 23, increasing the total number of cases to 17,079. The cases were reported in five provinces. Milne Bay province reported 13, followed by New Ireland and Madang with two each and the National Capital District, and Jiwaka with one case each. Of the 19 new cases 12 are males, and seven are females. Thirteen of the new cases were symptomatic at the time of testing, 11 had existing medical conditions and three had to be hospitalised.
