First-Aid training given to students in high schools, can actually help save lives, says Program Coordinator for St John Ambulance, following an awarding of First-Aid In School (FAIS) certificates to 43 Kopkop College year nine students last Friday. Papua New Guinea has recorded 19 new COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday, increasing the total number of cases to 17,079. The cases were reported in five provinces. Milne Bay province reported 13, followed by New Ireland and Madang with two each and the National Capital District, and Jiwaka with one case each. Of the 19 new cases 12 are males, and seven are females. Thirteen of the new cases were symptomatic at the time of testing, 11 had existing medical conditions and three had to be hospitalised. A primary school in the North Fly District of Western Province was the proud recipient of a new school bus, thanks to a local women and children association. The St. Leo Matkomnai Primary School, located 50 kilometers away from Kiunga town, received the new 25-seater bus on June 18th from the Tutuwe Ara Women and Children Association. There is an overwhelming community support from residents of Edai town towards the injured school kids and their families. Since the school bus accident on Tuesday morning, 22nd June, a meeting was called by residents where an interim committee was appointed and the following day, funds were raised through a wheel barrow push within Edai town estate.
