Frustrated landowners of the Papua Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in Gulf Province are requesting that the government reallocate the K60 million allocated for Business Development Grants to Gulf LO’s. Dominic Evere, Chairman of MEPO Holdings Ltd. and Papua LNG announced that K120 million, of which K60 million was allocated for in the 2024 National Budget, would be granted as a Business Development Grant to the Gulf Papua LNG landowners. The United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), supported a five-day workshop on community-level sustainable land use planning in Lae from July 8-13. The workshop was led by the non-governmental organization (NGO) Forests for Certain: Forests for Life! (FORCERT) and was attended by representatives from national and provincial level government departments and NGOs. Air Niugini’s PX100 cabin crew on the morning flight of Wednesday 17th July, acted swiftly to extinguish the smoke and fire from a damaged mobile phone battery belonging to a passenger and evacuated all 63 passengers.
