The landowners of the Special Mining Lease (SML) area of the Porgera Mine in Enga province now want full participation in mine contracts under the new agreement of the new Porgera Mine. Total Energies, the lead developer of the Papua LNG project, is looking at recruiting over 5, 000 people for the construction phase of the project, through the newly developed WAN PNG Platform. Two fire fighters were injured and properties worth over hundred thousand Kina were destroyed on Tuesday evening after fire burned through about two units of buildings at the Yumi Yet estate in Gerehu, Port Moresby.
