National St John Ambulance (NStJA) and the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation (PNGSF) have signed a five-year Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to strengthen health and safety across Port Moresby’s major sporting facilities.
The partnership will support NStJA’s community health, social enterprise, and ambulance training programs while providing PNGSF staff with high-quality first aid training and regular health assessments.
This initiative is aimed at protecting the high number of athletes, sports enthusiasts, and families who use PNGSF venues each year.
Under the agreement, NStJA will establish dedicated training and storage facilities at the Taurama Aquatic Centre, offering regular basic and advanced first aid courses as well as on-site emergency support for PNGSF events.
In exchange, PNGSF will provide access to land, storage space, and exclusive facility memberships to help NStJA expand its operations in the city.
Dr. Arabella Koliwan, Interim Chief Executive of National St John PNG says the partnership brings top-notch first aid and emergency care to keep Port Moresby’s sports venues safe for everyone.
“By working hand-in-hand, we’re making Port Moresby’s sporting precincts safer for all.”
“Every year, thousands of sports enthusiasts, athletes, and families use PNGSF facilities.”
“This partnership ensures their safety is supported by internationally benchmarked first aid training and emergency health care, delivered on site.”
PNG Sports Foundation CEO Mr. Micah James welcomed the partnership, emphasizing its benefit for staff and the wider community.
“We are proud to provide our team with quality training and health support from St John, ensuring we are fully equipped to respond in any situation and support a safe environment for everyone using our venues.”
The MoA ensures that all PNGSF staff will receive regular first aid training and health checks as part of their roles.
By embedding these skills into daily procedures, both organizations aim to uphold best-practice standards in public safety at Port Moresby’s premier sports facilities.
The partnership officially commenced on 1 September 2025 and will run for five years, with an option to extend by mutual agreement.
