The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) NCD and Central Province Commander Benjamin Turi, has assured the public that strict security operations are in place for the country’s 50th Independence Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Speaking at the official launch of police operations for 50th Jubilee Celebration at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium on Monday, September 1st, ACP Turi emphasized that police presence will be spread across the city and suburbs.
“Our job as operational officers on the ground are to take care of all the security in the suburbs and around the city, making sure that any little noise from any corner, we are quick to respond and make sure no one is hurt.”
He highlighted that internal security and movement of dignitaries are being handled by specialized units.
“Our SSD members are doing their part in the internal security movement of all dignitaries in hotels, wherever they go. They have done very well and continue to do well.”
In addition, ACP Turi warned that there will be no room for complacency.
“Quiet does not mean that we slack off. Every station commander must know your area of operations. We will all be out day and night to make sure the residents of the city are safe.”
He further cautioned police drivers to avoid misuse of vehicles and urged defensive driving.
“These vehicles are for the purpose to save our people in the city, not to be misused. Drivers, drive slowly, remove all earplugs from your ears, and be alert.”
With officers on the ground, SSD, water police, reservists, and general duties combined, ACP Turi assured the public.
“We will deliver this operation for the country to make it safe for everyone.”
